Overview
Netsweeper Lists provide a quick and flexible way to override categorization and fine-tune filtering for your needs. However, sometimes List rules can conflict. This article outlines how to test these issues.
Processing Steps
There are a number of processing steps that occur when a URL is filtered. It is good to understand how these various steps impact your filtering and where you can go to test/validate your findings.

Testing with the Netsweeper Trace Request
The simplest method to test why a URL List Entry is not being enforced is with our Trace Request tool.
Navigate to Tools > Trace Request, enter the Client, Group, or Policy you wish to test the URL against. If no Group is entered, it will test against the default Group. Enter the URL to be tested. In the below example the site is in the Master List categorized as General News.
Show All Steps
Selecting the Show All Steps button displays all processing steps checked in the Policy Processing framework. This is a great way to illustrate the many processing steps that the Policy Service goes through during the processing of each and every request that goes through the system.
