Introduction
Sometimes when using a Netsweeper (Filtered connections), you might find that streaming services like Netflix, BBC iPlayer or Disney+ don’t work as expected. This guide will help you understand why this happens and how to ask the streaming service to whitelist your IP address.
Why Streaming Services Block Filtered Connections
1. Content Licensing Agreements
- Regional Restrictions: Streaming services have agreements with content creators that limit where their shows and movies can be shown. This means certain content might be available in one country but not another.
- Location Verification: To ensure they’re following these agreements, streaming services check the location of your internet connection. Filtered connections can make it look like you’re in a different country, which can lead to access being blocked.
2. Preventing Unauthorized Access
- Subscription Policies: Some streaming services have different subscription prices and plans based on location. Filtered connections might allow people to bypass these policies, which services try to prevent.
- Account Sharing Concerns: Using a filtered connection can make it appear that multiple people in different locations are using the same account, which violates the terms of service.
3. Security and Fraud Prevention
- Security Measures: Streaming services block filtered connections to prevent potential abuse or fraud, protecting their content and business model.
How to Request IP Whitelisting
If you’re using a filtered connection like Netsweeper and are having issues accessing the content, you can contact the streaming service to request IP whitelisting, It is always best for you to reach out to the service as most of the time their support will need your account information.
- Find Your IP Address: If you're connected to one of our Netsweeper clouds you can reach out to support asking for the IP details or if you have your own server you can ask your support team or google what is my IP however if there are more than one proxy server you may not get all the IPs.
- Visit the Streaming Service’s Help Page: Go to the official website of the streaming service and look for the “Help” or “Support” section.
