Summary
The Chrome Manifest v2 Extension (Mv2) is used by installable web apps for the Chrome browser and ChromeOS platforms. Chrome Manifest v2 Extension support is being deprecated by Google later this year, as Chrome is moving to Manifest v3 (Mv3). Google has stated that they will begin the rollout in June 2024.
Does this affect me?
All customers that use the following:
- Netsweeper Client Filter for Chrome
- Netsweeper Workstation Agent for Chrome
If you are already running a Chrome Store release you are already running the latest available release, however if you are running an XML based rollout this affects your deployment.
What do I need to do?
If you are need to enable a new Chrome Extension policy before June 2024. The Chrome Extension policy ExtensionManifestV2Availability must be set to option (3), in order to allow force-installed v2 extensions.
This is a temporary measure, it is recommended that you upgrade your Netsweeper Client Filter for Chrome or Netsweeper Workstation Agent for Chrome to their respective Mv3 versions.
Updating your Google Admin Policy
In your Google Admin console, navigate to Devices > Chrome > Settings.
In the Settings window, select the desired organization unit (e.g., netsweeper.com) and then scroll down to the Apps and extensions section and select the Manifest V2 extension availability option.
Expand the configuration option and set it to 'Enable force-installed manifest V2 extensions' and select Save to apply this change.
